Ensuring Consumer Privacy in Bermuda’s Regulatory Sector
The Regulatory Authority of Bermuda (RA) continues to uphold its dedication to stakeholders' and core values of integrity by complying with new privacy rights and data protection as outlined by the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) 2016. As of January 2025, the RA is issuing a privacy notice to applicable sectors and consumers and updating our website to include a detailed privacy notice page.
To effectively regulate the industries of energy, electronic communications, fuel, and submarine cables, the regulatory authority will occasionally need to responsibly collect data from consumers or via third parties, such as electricity or communications providers. Whenever the RA requests personal data for a specific purpose not covered in our Privacy Notice, the RA will explain why it needs the information and the lawful basis for collecting it.
PIPA provides consumers peace of mind by prioritising data security and transparency. The RA encourages consumers to be aware of their rights, including access to data, correction of information, and control of data usage.
The Regulatory Authority of Bermuda (RA) is dedicated to ensuring compliance and transparency. Please visit www.ra.bm to learn more about what PIPA means for Bermuda’s regulatory sector and how it impacts you.
